At Sona Solar Zimbabwe, we're passionate about harnessing the power of the sun to create a brighter future for our nation.
That's why we're excited to share the news of the significant progress being made on the expansion of the Centragrid (Pvt) Ltd solar station, a project led by PowerChina.
25MW of Clean Energy on the Horizon
By the end of this month, the Centragrid solar station is expected to contribute a substantial 25MW of clean energy to the national grid. This expansion marks a major milestone in Zimbabwe's journey towards energy independence and a sustainable future.Building a Brighter Tomorrow, One Tower at a Time
The impressive 100-tonne transformer, a crucial component of the expansion, has already been positioned at the photovoltaic field. This vast field currently spans 50 hectares and is designed to expand to 120 hectares as the power station grows even larger.Nyabira Solar Station To Produce 25MW - Centragrid Solar Power Station Gears Up for Expansion |
Construction crews have also erected the first of at least 1,000 towers that will support the transmission lines, a symbol of the project's steady progress.
Independent Power Producers: Leading the Charge
Independent power producers like Centragrid are playing a vital role in bolstering Zimbabwe's energy grid. Their contributions have already reached 50-60 MW daily, and this is projected to reach a staggering 600MW by 2030, aligning perfectly with the government's ambitious energy sufficiency goals.PowerChina: A Partner in Progress
PowerChina, the project developer, acknowledges the significance of the Centragrid expansion, stating on their social media platform: "The 25 MW Centragrid PV solar expansion is making significant strides in Zimbabwe. The first tower stands tall, marking a monumental step towards sustainable economic transformation in Zimbabwe."Accurate Measurement for Efficient Power Distribution
The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is taking proactive measures to manage the increased power generation capacity. This includes installing "statistical metering" at the Norton bulk supply point. This advanced metering system allows for real-time monitoring of the power flowing into the grid, accounting for any losses that occur during transmission. This ensures accurate billing between ZETDC and independent power producers like Centragrid.Solar Power: Shining Brighter than Hydro
As the flow of the mighty Zambezi River diminishes due to frequent droughts, solar power is poised to become the leading source of clean energy in Zimbabwe. The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) has been forced to significantly reduce allocations to national power authorities due to falling water levels in Lake Kariba, threatening to reach historic lows.Embracing a Sustainable Future
The expansion of the Centragrid solar station, alongside the ongoing efforts of independent power producers, presents a beacon of hope for a more secure and sustainable energy future for Zimbabwe. At Sona Solar Zimbabwe, we applaud the progress on this project and remain committed to promoting solar energy solutions for a brighter tomorrow.
